My first use of the Haga Park Tent image was in a diorama letter holder. My Second idea was to create a paper folly. Now, I have turned the wing of the tent upside down to create a cartonnage wall bracket. All three items are pictured in the studio photograph above. The snowy image over my sketch is from Joni Webb's encyclopedic design blog; cote de texas.

Some of the reflected surroundings are visible in the glass front but also visible is the wash of pale burnt sienna on the light green ground. The same colors wash the black and white layered Alexander Marshall Lillium Arantia. This diorama cartonnage waste paper basket was papered in green and grey. It arrives at Hollyhock this week. The Sunflower in a similar finish sold last week.

This article showcases the talent of Portland designers, Matthew Boyes and Frederic Koeleman, and Portland photographer, David Papazian. My work is the life size oil portrait, the Venetian blue console and the layered gouache in the guest room. It was great fun to play a small role in this project and great fun to be tagged in the magazine. Thank you Matthew and Frederic.
The top photo is by David Papazian from Matthew and Frederic's website, the second photograph is in my studio and pictures from the article follow.

The generosity of so many professionals in the interior design/ style trade is amazing. Carolyne Roehm posted detailed pictures on her website which she took in Claydon House, including the first picture above. The day of her post, I was painting a yellow strie ground for a sunflower and the spots so visible in her photograph became a finishing touch in my work. This sunflower Diorama Cartonnage Waste Paper Basket shipped today for Hollyhock. *sold

Suzanne's Garden Roses was the subject of a pretty email I received this June with pictures from Hollyhock's fresh summer collection. Oh garden roses! I took these pictures in The International Rose Test Garden in Portland, and painted roses after Alexander Marshal. The center picture shows the roses painted in gouache, copied, cut and layered with the copies beneath the gouache. This is one of a pair of rose paintings now in the collection at Hollyhock.
Spring Break

The chalk vignette I drew for Cielo Home in Portland last year included a mirror after Bunny Williams' faux bois beauty, trellis panels, and a console table with a rhythmically carved apron Frederic had photographed. As it often happens, once a design makes its way into one's work the likelihood of recognizing it elsewhere greatly increases. The second photograph is from The World of Interiors where I learned the pattern has a name: Vitruvian Scroll. Also known as the Vitruvian Wave, the pattern can be seen as a series of waves or scrolls viewed on end. The final picture is from our Spring Break, a railing in the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Long enamored of the beautiful samples in the interior design trade, this beribboned box of diminutive Italian paper samples was created in that spirit.
The samples are also functional, they are sized to hold business cards.

Last Summer Hollyhock chose a Scanlon Apparati letter holder to appear in the July/August issue of House Beautiful. The best thrill!
